It's from Dr. Seuss's Horton Hears a Who, which is now in theaters. If it's been too long since you've read the book or you haven't seen the movie, this line comes from the climactic moment when the world of Whoville, made up of small beings, is about to be destroyed because no one in our world believes in their existence.

Maybe along with some context (from the book)?

"This," cried the Mayor, "is your town's darkest hour!
The time for all Whos who have blood that is red
To come to the aid of their country!" he said.
"We've GOT to make noises in greater amounts!
So, open your mouth, lad! For every voice counts!" ....

And, down on the dust speck, the scared little Mayor
Quick called a big meeting in Who-ville Town Square.
And his people cried loudly. The cried out in fear:
"We are here, we are here, we are here, WE ARE HERE!"

And how about we send one main card with the entire message above, then every other bouquet has one of those small cards that says, "We are here!"

Some kind of clever candy-bar-gram or poem written to her for a card.
(e.g. Helen, "Thanks for being such a SMARTIE and asking the tough questions. We do not know the REISENS others are not doing the same. As concerned citizens of this country we had to decide WERTHER to just sit back or do something to show our appreciation. We feel the country is headed down a ROCKY ROAD and falling into [Reeses] PIECES, when its press begins silencing themselves and no longer acts as the voice of the people. You are worth more than 100 GRAND. HUGS and KISSES, and then something to indicate the # of individual donations given to show our numbers ....)

  • I think something on this theme is the best idea. It's the most directly related to why we're doing this.

"Thank you for being the last real journalist who is not in bed with the government and exposing Bush's hypocrisy on TORTURE!" (this way the media cannot spin our message into something else)

"Helen, you asked "Where is everybody?"...We have been asking the same thing. Thank you for not letting us down."

  • Please, please, please sign it "From the internet." It shows our power as united entity and is more awe inspiring. Further, I think we should try to keep the message positive and not say things like "at least someone gives a damn," etc. Send a message of support and keep things positive. We'll be more powerful that way.


How about a voluntary list of either user names, or real names (for those who want to) to be sent alongside the flowers. For $4000, a flower shop would print up a card for you.

  • Organise some kind of poll/vote to decide between suggestions on the best way to spend the money
  • Avoid a poll/vote with ridiculous choices. See "Mr Splashy Pants."
  • Contact the florist in advance - they're gonig to need to know they have a big order coming in
  • Coordinate the delivery with other fundraising efforts (like the BountyUp.com bounty)
  • Make sure you include a note so she knows why she's getting the flowers and who they're from.

Question: (if you know), how much money came from reddit referrers, and how much from media referrers? Just wondering.

How many deliveries will be made in total? Just those three? Are there still plans for flowers at the restaurant and for weekly fruit deliveries?
